Tires and random update
Just dropping some random pictures. My previous post was deleted.
Freshly installed Shinko 777 and washed comstar wheels.
They now look much better than before !
Some parts were sanded and polished..all by hands.
Here’s a preview of my custom gauges. I’m pretty happy with the result!
A clip-on and mirror. I like mirrors at the bar-ends.
I cleaned the frame then primed it outside. It was then rattle canned at my friend’s work because it became too cold outside.
SOME of the new parts.
Damn wheel bearings
Today I tackled the wheel bearing. You need to fabricate a special tool to remove to total of 3 bearing retainers and drift the bearings out. They were solid but at 35 years old, it’s a peice of mind. After the stem bearing, they are the crappiest maintenance item to do imo.
My special tool ia made with a thick stainless steel ruler. I don’t recommend.
The disassembly
Zoe love the boxes. Who doesn’t love boxes !?
Leaky valve stem seal on exhaust #1. This will be changed.
Deep cleaning of the carbs.
Lots of places needs a good cleanin’
I love the style of these wheels. Should be looking real nice when refreshed.
The engine needed a lot of elbow greese.
Front calipers were in bad shape and leaky / non functionnal. The line and master cylinder will be changed and slave honed.
New parts to be installed. Wheels and neck bearing. Brake pads, filters, etc. Those tires are Shinko 777 with white walls… I really love the look and it was 6$ extra only! Lol
Day XXX
Finally, the time is right to build a bike. The winner is this 1980 cb650 with 50k odd kilometers. It seems to have been always stored, despite a bit of rust the bike is in really good shape. I bought it in running condition, however it wasn’t charging. My effort will be to bring it to a safe running condition and have a cafe inspired look.
At the time of this writing….to be continued
